Sunny Santa Monica

As the third day of any full-throttle three-day weekend often goes, I think I speak for the group when I say that our tanks were running a little empty.  Probably not enough steam for surfing, nor biking, nor hiking.  So what else does one do while visiting LA?  Stalk celebrities!  Lea’s greatest celebrity crush is Reese Witherspoon, and it just so happens that Kate had recently seen Ms. Witherspoon at her local Brentwood Village Market.  Sounds as good a place as any for a little Easter Morning Brunch!

It’s so funny walking around known celebrity hang-outs.  You can feel everyone looking around, checking each other out for the chance glimpse of anyone recognizable from the big or small screen.  It’s not uncommon, either.  Collectively, we’ve seen celebrities ranging from “Coach”, to Eric from “Entourage”, Angelina Jolie (in NY), Gavin Rossdale & Gwen Stefani, Luke Wilson (kind of a creeper – stared at Lea too long), the lady from the Pine Sol commercials (I think), and on.  To date, seeing Jerry Seinfeld walk up to one of his Porsches with his Saturday morning coffee has been a sighting I thought I’d never top. But today, I’ve got a new one vying for top spot.  HARRISON FORD!  Supposedly he’s kind of an A** about his “privacy”, but I don’t care.  He’s Indiana Jones!  And while I didn’t take a picture, I made eye contact with him as he was walking in and gave him the “What’s up?” nod.  To which he nodded in reply, “Hi.  Keep your distance.”  If I had it to do all over again, I’d have him sign this!

Well as exciting as all that was, it was time to get along with the day and walk off breakfast.  Palisades Park in Santa Monica is one of my favorite places. Period.  It’s just beautiful.  Clean.  Lots of people out exercising, yoga-ing, and just generally being well.  If you’re ever in the neighborhood, I suggest checking it out.  Looking north toward Malibu, you can sometimes even make-out Pepperdine.

Then it was back to the shack (errr, Chateau) to sip some rehydrating coconut water (it’s sooo LA) and catch a bit of the Masters Golf Tournament while the girls sunned themselves by the pool.

Of all the amazing food we had enjoyed this weekend, we were still really looking forward to our last meal of the trip.  Pitfire Pizza.  We used to eat here at least once a week, and finding a suitable substitute was at the top of our list of priorities when we moved to MSP (Punch Pizza is at close as it gets).  Thin crust, fresh seasonal toppings, BYOB with no corkage.  Does it get any better than that? (No).

Best of all, our friend Gene-O was able to join us for the early-bird special. (Oddly, I may be the only one who adds the “O” to his name.  But how can you not?).  I love these people.

That’s all he wrote.  As I wrap up this third and final installment of our weekend birthday adventure, Lea has already returned for a comp shopping trip for work!  Lucky.  Duck.
